A cyclone in the far north, tornado in the south east and fires running in the west; the 26,000 Rural Fire Brigade members continue to help communities recover from disaster.
Rural Fire Brigades are community organisations that reflect community needs and in the south east many brigades opened their doors to the public and provided hot food, showers and an airconditioned environment where people could recharge their phones in a safe place.
With more storms forecast, still months of the cyclone season ahead and sweltering heat in the north west it’s a great time to acknowledge what the volunteer firefighters contribute to community defence and to thank them for the sacrifice that they and their families make.
