Assistant Minister welcomes Deputy Commissioner for Emergency Volunteers

Assistant Minister for Emergency Volunteers, Ted Malone, today welcomed the announcement of Mr Bryan Cifuentes to the position of Acting Deputy Commissioner for Emergency Volunteers within the department of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES).

'The Deputy Commissioner for Emergency Volunteers encompasses all volunteers within Rural Fire Service Queensland, State Emergency Service, Emergency Service Cadets, Volunteer Marine Rescue, Coastguard and Surf Life Saving Queensland.

'This important and unique role in Australia further supports the LNP government's recognition of the importance of our emergency volunteers, and is in line with both the recommendations of the Malone Review and the appointment of an Assistant Minister for Emergency Volunteers.'


Mr Malone said the Deputy Commissioner will ensure the recommendations of the Malone Review are implemented at the volunteer level and importantly will oversee operations and support for Emergency Volunteers within the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service.

Assistant Minister Malone said that Mr Cifuentes brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the new position and most importantly, has vast experience in working with volunteers, having come into the position from the Rural Fire Service.

'I wholeheartedly welcome Mr Cifuentes to this new and exciting role with QFES, and l know he is looking forward to working in partnership with local volunteers and their communities.'
