Wednesday, 1 Mar 2017
Last Saturday saw over 100 brigade volunteers and RFSQ staff give up their weekend to attend an executive workshop on Boyne Island.
1st Officers, Secretaries, Chairs and Treasurers from across the Gladstone RFSQ Area heard about improvements in training, equipment, the new management committee manual and the increase in volunteer support being provided by the RFS and QFES.
Deputy Commissioner ESV Mike Wassing, Assistant Commissioner RFSQ Tom Dawson and Chief Superintendent Gary McCormack were just a few of the staff who flew up to support the volunteers in addition to Craig Magick, Andrew Marnie and the local Area Office team.
To support the Gladstone volunteer elected RFBAQ Representative John Massurit, the RFBAQ had an information and PPB Grant Application stand at the workshop.
There was a large display of the new vehicles in service with new dual cab and single cab Isuzu appliances, single cab Canter and a Ford Ranger dual cab kindly driven up by Broweena RFB in the Maryborough Area.
Also on display were the Operational Support Unit 244 Sierra, Central Region 72 and Central Region 81 which is the RFSQ Regional Community Education vehicle. John Welke, who is the manager of Operational Support demonstrated a prototype CAFS system that the RFSQ is investigating.
The Executive Workshop is organised annually by the Gladstone Area Office staff and they are to be commended for this proactive volunteer support initiative.
