My wife and I moved to Kuranda in 1991, raised two children and started a successful small business. In 2012, wanting to give back to community, I joined the Kuranda/Myola RFB as a fire fighter. I served as Crew Leader and Secretary for several years before becoming First Officer in 2016. I did a short stint in 2017 as a BTSO in the Cairns Office. Later that year I became Fire Warden for our neighboring district, Flaggy Creek, and began engaging with our local indigenous land managers, the Bulmba Rangers.
I have been on many deployments from Cooktown to Nowra over the years. I am passionate about hazard reduction cool burns and burning for biodiversity, incorporating Aboriginal fire techniques amongst others. I gained my QFES Remote Pilot Licence in 2019 and look forward to drones being used more under the strict rules of operation.
